Google Music Launch Event

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Mike attended the launch of Google music today which included a Q&A session with Mike, Mos Def, Wendy Nussbaum (UMG),Steve Savoca (Domino Recording),Syd Schwartz (EMI),and Ryan Tedder (OneRepublic). Also they used Dead by Sunrise music so demonstrate how google music will work, pretty cool.

Found some quotes and pictures below:

Mike Shinoda: We used to be called Hybrid Theory. We settled on Lincoln Park, we went online to see if we could get our URL. We were online early on, changed the name of the band to get URL that would give the fans the most direct link to our fans.
Asks Mike about how things have changed over time. Mike talks about how Linkin Park had a different name, found the name Lincoln Park but couldn’t get that domain. “We thought, this could be an important thing to have a dot.com of our name.” So we literally changed the name of the band to get the URL that would give us the most direct link to our fans. [and yes, I know he also said this yesterday at the 140 Twitter conference. He mentioned to everyone here he told the story there, too].

RJ asks if they thought about getting non-US domain names for the band, like in France. Mike says thought about that.
Mike from Linkin Park says you’ll be able to see how they make their next album online.
Mike Shinoda: We used to be called Hybrid Theory. We settled on Lincoln Park, we went online to see if we could get our URL. We were online early on, changed the name of the band to get URL that would give the fans the most direct link to our fans.
Q: Did you ever think international? Do you think about the French version of the Linkin Park website?
MS: We’re in the process of doing that right now to create an easier experience for fans in Asia and Europe..
How will this change industry in future? Courtney says Google has lots of queries but hasn’t been leading people to a legit experience. This gives consumer more uniformity. It actually gives the rightsholder more control, a way to make money.

Mike from Linkin Park, “I want as few steps as possible between me and that think I’m looking for, the band … I want to be able to find them amidst the noise.” This is what excites him most about this.

Some interesting information there, cant wait to see how they're going to show us how they make their music.

Edit:
According to Amir Dead by Sunrise played at this event as well.

140 Character Conference Pictures #140conf

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

Found some pictures from the conference!

Quotes:

What do you like about Twitter?
Everything
How often do you use Twitter?
As often as I blog.
How much info is too much?
It depends on your personality...

Here are some Tweets from twitterers that were at the conference.
@m_shinoda says that they changed the name of Linkin Park in order to get the URL when they started the band
Social media allows @m_shinoda to own his connection with fans & make sure it is "correct."
Linkin Park talking abt numbers vs "true fans." #140conf
@m_shinoda speaking with @scottperry they want more actual fans instead of the race to a million.

Mike was talking about how millions of fans isn't the most important thing for Linkin Park but rather true fans are more important to them. Quality>Quantity
I also found a video:

Will get more pics later (better quality pictures), Mike JUST spoke, literally.
Edit: More pics uploaded, one of them:

Mike to speak in the 140 Character Conference in LA

Thursday, October 15, 2009

I found this Tweet by Jeff Pulver, saying that Mike has joined the Cast of Characters of the 140 Character Conference in LA, he will speak on October 27th.
About The 140 Character Conference in LA:

At the #140conf events, we look at twitter as a platform and as a language we speak. Over time it will neither be the only platform nor the only language. #140conf is not an event about microblogging or the place where people share twitter “tips and techniques” but rather where we explore the effects of the emerging real-time Internet on Business.
Read more here.
...this event will have a special focus on the use of twitter in the Entertainment Industry.

Interesting that Mike will speak at this conference...since it's related to Twitter, but hopefully there will be pictures and video!

Mike will speak at 4:40PM on October 27th (first day of the two day conference) at The Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, CA
He and Arron Ray are listed under "Artist & Manager" Subject: Notes on twitter & real time communication.

Not anyone can attend this, there is a fee, it's a lot of money but if you're interested in this, then register here.

EDIT: Found a discount...$200, not sure if it's still valid it was just yesterday but if you're in the LA area or want to travel there, get your tickets and use this promotional code: GeneralAdmision
here is the email from Jeff Pulver:
For the first time, I am opening up the General Admission seats above the first floor in the Kodak Theater and offering access to these seats for $200 for both days. When I look at the schedule ( http://lax.140conf.com/schedule ) for the upcoming 140 Characters Conference: Exploring the State of NOW, taking place in Los Angeles on October 27/28, the first word that comes to my mind is diversity. Over the course of two days there will be 63 sessions presented on the Kodak Theater stage, covering a diverse set of topics including: Education, The Democratization of Information, Public Diplomacy, Public Health, Public Safety, China, Brands, Comedy, Investing, News, Public Policy & Law, Poker, Small Business, Music, Sports, Hollywood Politics and a lot more.
